Our
Story
It all started on Hinge in late May 2023, when Hazel liked a photo of Jacob carrying his family cat, Coco. Hazel has a cat too, Linguini, so this was an immediate green flag.
Our first date was at a cafe on Flinders Lane where Hazel was naturally 45 minutes late. Afterwards, Hazel suggested going for a walk along the Yarra, but Jacob misunderstood and thought she was heading there to meet her friends. He went home instead, leaving Hazel confused and thinking that was the first and last date. Thankfully, Jacob asked her out again a week later.
Over those first few dates, we quickly bonded over our shared love of exploring new places. Hazel, a solo-travelling veteran, convinced Jacob to take his first solo trip. Not long after, we were off on our solo adventures: Jacob to Poland and Hazel to Spain and Portugal. We called each other every day to share stories from our travels, and somewhere along the way we realised just how much we enjoyed each other's company.
Once we were both back home in Melbourne, Jacob spent almost every weekend at Hazel's place, from doing tarot Sundays to learning K-pop dance moves in the living room with Hazel's housemates. A year later, Jacob made Hazel's house his home too and moved in.

Since then, it has been a non-stop adventure. We've become a two-cat family, with Jacob quickly adapting to life as a cat dad to Linguini. We also welcomed Lomi into our family after an impromptu Saturday afternoon trip to the animal shelter.

We've travelled to many places over the last three years, from making matcha in Japan to flying over the Aztec pyramids in a hot air balloon, to relaxing in a private villa in Bali.

Then came the proposal. In February 2025, Hazel thought she was simply meeting her friends for a coffee catch-up and a walk around Carlton Gardens. Instead, Jacob had secretly planned with her friends to lead her to a tree where he was waiting to get down on one knee.

And now, three years after that first date, we're getting ready to begin the next chapter of our journey together.
